J. D. Holder, 77, of Batesville, died Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at White River Medical Center.

He was born in Batesville, Arkansas on January 13, 1939 to Charles Willis Holder and Montie Delle (Gray) Holder. He was a retired carpenter and a member of North Heights Church of Christ. J. D. enjoyed fishing, gardening, and sports. He especially liked to watch NASCAR races. As a self-employed carpenter, he loved building houses. Most of all, J. D. loved his family.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy Lou (Elms) Holder of Batesville; and a sister, Minnie (Holder) Green of Searcy. Other survivors include two grandchildren, Jeremy Cartmill and Brittany Holder; and two great-grandchildren, Hanlee Cartmill and Reighna Cartmill.

J. D. was preceded in death by his parents; his son, James Holder; his daughter, Melinda Kay Holder Cartmill; five brothers, Walter, Michael, Daniel, Ray and Jessie Holder; and two sisters, Odelene Grady and Ellen Juanita Files.

Pallbearers will be David Elms, Marty Rollins, Windell Elms, Logan Elms, Keith Hankins, and Austin Blantin.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 6, at North Heights Church of Christ with Steve Norris officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery under the direction of Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.

Peggy and family, we are so sadden about JD's passing. You and he were some my earliest memories of being in church at Pleasant Plains. His ability to lead singing will be a forever memory. We will not be in town for the visitation or service but please know that you are in our prayers.
