George L. Looney

of Mountain View, AR

January 11, 1954 - January 30, 2013

George Lovell Looney, 59, of Mountain View, Arkansas, died Wednesday morning, January 30, 2013 in his home. George was born January 11, 1954 in Batesville, Arkansas to Grace Lorraine Looney and James Orby Looney who preceded him in death and who were also residents of Mountain View, Arkansas. George married Karen Jeane Stone; Yuma, Arizona in 2002, Karen survives in their home.
For the last 40 years George has worked as a craftsman at The Dulcimer Shoppe in Mountain View. An avid outdoorsman, George found peace and comfort by spending as much time outside, hiking, arrowhead hunting, doing woodworking projects and working in the yard with Karen ''Honey'' as he called her. Though not an openly religious man, George always felt closest to God while outside surrounded by nature and God's creatures.
When George married Karen on December 28, 2002 he not only earned the title of husband but also the title of ''Bonus Dad'' to Karen's 4 children, Shona Watson, Tosha Edwards, Mike Williams and Mark Williams as well as the title of Grandpa to 15 grandchildren, Kaelea, Britnie, Alissa, Hadlee, Hunter, Hollyn, Hope, Asher, Tyson, Makayla, Makenzy, Miley, Taylyn, Liam, and Jase. The only thing George loved more than Karen and being outside in nature was being a ''Bonus Dad'' and spending time with his kids and grandkids.
George is survived by his sister Peggy Trammell of Timbo, brothers Doug Looney, Tommy and wife Mona Looney, Dwight Looney and Jim and wife Karen Looney all from Mountain View, Arkansas. Numerous nieces and nephews.
George was buried on January 30, 2013 at Flatwoods Cemetery in Mountain View, only family in attendance. A celebration of his life will be held in Nebraska for family at a later date.
In lieu of memorials please send donations to CMC Hospice 400 South College, Suite 2, Mountain Home, AR. 72653.

My heart is heavy that you have left us, but I look back fondly at many years of memories- dating back to when Sarai and I were just kids and you and Vicky would babysit. George, you always had a smile and could bring us to happy tears with your wonderful humor. We will miss you very much. Until we meet again...

Very sad loss for his wife, his kids, his grandkids, his friends and to everyone that didn't get a chance to know George. He was a really great guy and very easy to talk to. He will surely be missed by all.

May you find peace and comfort,

To the entire Looney family,

I am unbelievably saddened by the passing of George. As a young boy he always took time to for me whether it was teaching me how to fish or skin a deer, learning to run a lathe or driving around in the middle of winter in his old jeep with the top off and heater on full blast. I was able to visit with him a couple times over the last few years when I made it back to Mountain View and he was as kind, funny and gracious as the 'big brother' I knew him to be so long ago. He cultivated my love of woodworking which I still do today and if I become half the craftsman he was I will be very proud. Now God has called him home so he can make dulcimers for the angels to play while they sing. Thank you for allowing me to express both my grief at his passing and the joy in the time I got to spend with him. He will be missed.
