Danny Ray Cook

of Conway, AR

March 1, 1964 - June 7, 2012

Danny Ray Cook, 48, of Conway, died Thursday, June 7, 2012 in Daytona Beach, Florida. He was born Sunday, March 1, 1964 in Texarkana, Texas to Sam and Marilyn Cranford Cook. He was united in marriage on September 7, 1991 to Karla Woods Cook.

Danny graduated from then University of Arkansas with a Bachelor's of Science degree. Danny was the owner of Unishippers of Northern Arkansas and Oklahoma and Cook Rental Properties. Danny owned several other businesses in his twenty-one years in Conway and considered Conway as his adopted home. Danny developed several commercial properties in Conway including Cassidy Plaza on Hogan Lane and Carson Cove on Prince Street. Danny was an officer of the Unified Franchisee Advisory board for Unishippers Inc. Danny was a tireless volunteer serving both communities in Arkansas and Texas with the Jaycees. Danny was the founding board member of Big Brothers/Big Sisters of North Central Arkansas. Danny enjoyed coaching the Farm Bureau Steelers Pee Wee football team for seven years. Danny was a faithful and supportive member of Conway Kiwanis.

Danny enjoyed all types of sports, football, baseball, soccer, but no professional or college team sent him to his feet like seeing his son, Carson or Daughter, Cassidy playing their sports on a field in front of him. Danny made many trips out of state and in state to watch his children compete in sports while suffering from a constant pain of his numerous surgeries

Danny was preceded in death by his grandparents, Milton and Mary Cranford and Benjamin and Myrtle Cook.

Danny is survived by his wife Karla Cook; son, Carson Cook, seventeen; daughter, Cassidy Cook, fourteen' mother Marilyn Cook; father, Sam Cook; sister, Tina Megason Schoonover; brothers, Neil and Steven Cook; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Danny has a host of friends who faithfully prayed for him and his family. These friends and family witnessed firsthand the courage and determination Danny relentlessly exhibited over his thirteen years of battle with his health and multiple surgeries. It was our Lord's provision and inexpressible blessing when Danny had Dr. Bruce Ramshaw and his assistant, Brandie Forman join him in his long physical battle that ended with nothing short of a battle well fought on June 6, 2012. Their medical expertise and Christian beliefs added seven more years to his life.

There are few who will ever know the love of a friend, like Ray Holman. Danny treasured Ray's friendship and they shared a brotherly sacrificial love that exemplified ''No greater love than to lay down your life for another''.

Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at The Church Alive. Interment will follow in Crestlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Roller-McNutt Funeral Home of Conway (501)327-7727. Visitation will be Monday, June 11, 2012, 6:00-8:00 pm at the church.

Pallbearers are, Ray Holman, David Kinley, Blaine LaRue, David Hawks, Mac McCullough, Ron Hill, Wayne Larue and Bryan Adams. Honorary pallbearers are, J. Mark Ware, Randy Standly, Leo Reddoch, Terry Cradduck, Willie Armstead, Joe Nichols, Jr.,and Rusty Cranford.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Big Brothers/Big Sisters of North Central Arkansas, P.O. Box 153, Conway, AR 72033 or The Church Alive, P.O. Box 1083, Conway, AR 72033.

Dearest Karla, Carson, and Cassidy,
There are no words to truly express how much you are in my prayers and thoughts after losing your precious husband and Daddy. I knew him before and after he got sick but I always loved him to tease me and he did all the time! Giving me a hard time with that twinkle in his eye I realized what a big softie even though he tried not to be all the time! He loved to boss not only me but everyone from his lawn chair at Toad Suck or have us waiting on him hand and foot! He would bluster about but knowing how much he loved his family (all of them) but especially you three made him even more lovable! I also loved when he would try to run over you in one of his new fancy cars...laughing all the way and then turning around and coming back to give you a compliment and boss you too!
I lost my breath when I heard the news, even though I know how he suffered and thankful he no longer does. I do have a vision of him sitting at a poker table with Carter, Lanny, along with Frank Sinatra, & all of the "Brat Pack" playing big hands and loving it when he wins! Not many people saw the sweet side of him but he was and the times I talked to him when he was sick or having problems he never complained, he was just worried about you all.
And Karla that man LOVED you more than life itself, just the way he looked at you made my heart swell as I hoped someday I would have someone look at me that way. You will always know that you were loved more than words can express. And you are the strongest woman I know having had to live with his illness too for 13 years. But you did it with grace and love for the man who adored you. I did get my wish and was loved completely but unfortunately I lost him way too soon but we did have that wonderful special time. And being the football fanatics and players both Danny and John were I know they have met and are playing games in heaven every day and being the stars of each one!
I am so thankful for the friendship I have had with your family and I remember meeting you Karla for the first time as it was about a month before Cassidy was born! I do love all of you and my heart hurts for you all and for everyone who loved him. I too am selfish as I miss him too and my prayers are with all of you. I know God is watching over you every day and will be there to help you through this extremely rough time, and remember some days you just have to smiile through the tears. I know we can't be too dramatic because Danny is watching and bossing us to remember that he is in the better place and is waiting patiently for all those he loves. And I am not about to let him catch me whining...he would never let me live it down! Love to you all...Lynn

To Karla, Carson and Cassidy,
I am so very sorry for your loss. Danny was a great man to so many people. Because of Danny, I gained a greater understanding of the business World with my first real job out of college. Danny giving me a chance to be successful, is something I will never forget. I am happy to say that I knew Danny on more than a business level and considered him a friend. I am glad that I was able to see him and let him meet my son the last time we were in Conway. Please know that Danny will always be looking down with that great smile and laugh. I am so sorry for your loss. You can tell by the video Danny lived life to it's fullest and that he loved you and the kids. As I read several of the post I could also see he was a man of God and that will give you comfort and strength. It seems just a while back we were all kids at Ellen Smith playing on the playground and not a care in the world. Boy how life changes. I will be praying for you all in the days to come.

Danny, ..It's so hard to believe the news, can't believe that you are really gone. You fought so hard, for so long, and I know the battle made you weary. Thank you for being such a great friend, mentor, and role model to me. May the Lord wrap your family in his arms and comfort them, as we lift them up in prayer. May those prayers be coveted. Heaven gained another angel...but our hearts will always be saddened by the lost. Take care, my dear friend, the pain and scars are cleansed away.

Karla, Carson & Cassidy,

As I write this note, I remember Danny always in the summer time of baseball. Danny was always there to watch Carson & Cassidy, if he felt good or felt bad. He supported the teams in more than one way.
He always lead prayer with the Outlaw team before they hit the field, & that is a memory for all.
Your support for our family during illness, no words can express how that’s make a family feel.
He will met another team member as he enter the wide open field, and may they cheer together.
Ours hearts reach out to you and our thoughts and prayers are with all of you. God Bless!!

"For Once In Your Life If your Lucky", you too have been bless by my cousin "who is my brother", Danny Cook. I still remember the first words you said to Karla, on the first day you ever met her. I quote you on this part of the conversation; She is the one bubba, I told you good luck on that, after the way you introduce yourself. Once again, you did what you said, you was going to do. I told you once, for these are the times to remember, for they will not last forever. I am sure now, I was wrong about that with you. We have always believed, each and every one will live a legacy behind, one to be forgotten forever in a day or one to be remembered forever and always. I know from our child hood you was a dreamer and you "my bubba" lived your dream. Your Legacy will always be remembered; the love for your family, your faith, your friendship, your will to live life and enjoy it everyday. You were always a proud father and husband to your Cassidy, your Carson and your Karla. I know Karla is proud to call you her husband, your children is proud to call you daddy, your siblings are proud to call you brother, your in-laws is proud to call you their son-in-law and your parents are proud to call you son. I will not weep about this any longer, because I know you Danny Ray, you would say; you would probably scream for a few; then you may say; bubba I will see you in Heaven and I will know your name when you get there. I love you and will keep you in my heart forever, Rusty.

Danny gave real meaning to the word of God about fighting the good fight and running the race set before him. You can know by the look in someone's eye and the smile on their face especially when they talk about their wife and children like Danny liked to do, that Danny loved his family. I believe he fought to stay here with his family more for them than for himself. Danny reflected the patience of Job because he never crused God or blamed God for his pain. I received the blessing of personally witnessing one miracle after another in Danny's long battle with his health. Danny didn't loose the battle or the war. He fought the good fight and had his wife Karla, children, Carson and Cassidy and many friends at his side in the trenches with him. I loved how Danny had a natural instinct to want to defend someone who was being taken advantage of or defensless. I had the privilage of getting to know Danny's close friend Ray and see something few people will ever see in this day in time. Ray was a friend that exemplified when someone lays down their life for another. I witnessed faithfulness in this family. Here's to you Karla, it's not in the hymnals but I just though of the country song "Stand by your man" and you so did that over and over again. Danny gave me the song "Live life like you are dying" by Tim McGraw. That was so like Danny as I know he valued his life with as many times as he faced death his days here grew ever priceless. Danny learned what held true value in life and he took it with him. They say "you can't take it with you" but Danny did! He took with him the love he had for his Lord and his family. Till we meet again.

In the 100% Love and Glory of our Blessed Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Carol

Of course I did not know Danny but I read his obituary and wanted to express my thoughts to his young family. I know you have lost a great father but you will be with him again some day. I was born in Osceola, Arkansas and have relatives still there and have been to Conway many times. Arkansas is still my home, in my heart, although it is nearly 73 years since I left there. May God bless all of you.
