Mary (Tonie) A. Landers, 90 of Conway, went to be with her Lord Saturday, May 26, 2012.
She was born in Northumberland County, Virginia, to William Ray Welch and Bessie Marie Meade Welch on Thursday, December 15, 1921. She was the first of four children. She graduated from Northumberland County High School. She moved to Baltimore, Maryland, and then to Conway to work as the nurse at Central Baptist College (then an all girl school). She married William Loyce Landers on April 25, 1947. Her husband died in 1997, and since then, she has lived with her son. She worked in Little Rock as the executive director of the first Cerebral Palsy adult center, the first nursing home ombudsman and the first executive director of the Faulkner County Senior Citizens Center in Conway. She also worked for many companies as an accountant including McNutt Insurance Company. She was a founding member of Harlan Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a brother, Meade Welch.
She leaves to cherish her memory a son, Bill Landers of Conway; a daughter, Della Marie Landers Warren and her husband Paul of Conway; a brother, Luther Welch of Kilmarnock, Virginia; a sister, Gwen Deihl of Conway; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends.
Funeral service will be 10:00am, Wednesday, May 30, 2012 in the Roller-McNutt Funeral Home Chapel (501)327-7727, with Dr. Gary Mitchell officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 29, 2012, 6:00-8:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Crestlawn Memorial Park.
