Mr. Wilburn A Simpson

Mr. Wilburn A Simpson
Wilburn A. Simpson, Sr. 94, of England, Arkansas, began his heavenly walk with his Lord and Savior on April 28th, 2012. He was born to John Thomas and Gertha Blake Simpson on October 13, 1917 in the Gridley Community, Van Buren County, Arkansas. He was the oldest of four children. The family moved to the Pettus Community of Lonoke County around 1918 where they made their home.
Wilburn was a successful farmer. He grew crops of cotton, soybeans, rice and wheat for his family. He helped many farmers by loaning them equipment, providing seed for planting and sharing his knowledge of farming with them. He did this with crippled hands after being severely burned as a young teenager. Perhaps because of his limitations, he was determined to succeed. He tackled each task with more gusto and drive than most.
Wilburn had many friends and was well liked and highly respected by all who came to know him. He was always willing to help all who needed assistance. One of his children described him as “One of the most generous and amazing people born to this earth.”
This sentiment is shared by all who knew him in various capacities which included him sharing produce from the garden, pecans from his trees and assistance to community churches and non-profit organizations.
Wilburn A. Simpson, the smart, shy and talented man from around Pettus left his imprint on all who knew him. We all admired and loved him and coveted his talents and love for his family. He was a perfect example of a person who took lemons life gave him and turned them into lemonade.
He is survived by his loving and devoted children: Sherry (Bill) Sandage, Cherry Tipton, Sonny Simpson and Kathy Gibbs; Five grandchildren and seven precious great grandchildren. He is survived by two sisters; Wilma Ailene (Carlos) Burlison and Betty (Robert) Smith.
On his last days on this earth, he would tell all “I love my babies, all of my babies.” He also would recite the Lord’s Prayer with such innocence and compassion.
Wilburn was an active member of Caney Creek Baptist Church; loving the Lord and singing his praises.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Lillian Smith and his best friend, mother of his children, loving wife of fifty one years, Lillian Katherine Tyson Simpson.
All of his family and friends join in a choir of THANKS TO GOD for the precious gift of “Our Angel” who now is “His Angel”. We’re going to miss you Papa Pete.
A celebration of Wilburn’s life will be held at Caney Creek Baptist Church at 11:00 A.M. on May 1, 2012. Arrangements made by Roller England Funeral Home (501)-842-3939. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite charity or organization...
