James Edward (Sonny) Griffith, 80, of Conway, went to be with the Lord Friday, March 30, 2012. He was born February 1, 1932 in Vilonia, to the late Austin and Ardena (McHenry) Griffith.

He was a member and Deacon of Pickles Gap Baptist Church, a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be greatly missed. A 1950 graduate of Liberty High School, James served his country in the US Army from 1951 to 1953. He graduated from ASTC with a BSE degree in 1956 and later received a MSE from ASTC, where he played baseball for the Bears. James was a high school teacher and basketball coach at Ash Grove, MO, Bald Knob, Mayflower, Guy-Perkins, West Point and Mt. Vernon. He was a principal and teacher at Rosebud and a superintendent for eighteen years at South Side Bee Branch.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Ramona (Price) Griffith, son, Ricky Edward Griffith (Welda) of Bee Branch, four daughters, Sonya Lincoln of Conway, Shelia McKelvy (Bill) of Russellville, Sylvia Rhodes (Mike) of Louisville, Kentucky, and Joy West (Michael) of Searcy. Eleven grandchildren, Cameron Lincoln (Candy), Erin Roberson (Josh), Sean Lincoln, Tim McKelvy(Rachel), Philip McKelvy, Kevin Rhodes, Nathan Rhodes, Madi Griffith, Ayden Griffith, Mikayla West and Abbey West. Sister, Estelle Miller of Oregon City, Oregon and brother, Pat Griffith of Conway.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Sam Griffith and sister, Marie List.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Arkansas Hospice, Medisiss Home Health and caregivers, Michelle Duncan and Julie Shipman.

Funeral Services will be 10:00 am, Monday, April 2, 2012 in the chapel of Roller- McNutt Funeral Home, in Conway, with Bro. Laramie LeQuiue officiating. Burial will follow at Crestlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4:00-6:00 pm, Sunday, at the funeral home.

He was always Mr. Griffith to me. He had my utmost respect and admiration as a superintendent and as a man. Growing up in Bee Branch and going to South Side Schools there are alot of memories,but i think what i'll remember the most is running into Mr. & Mrs Griffith in Walmart and the visits we had there .
