David Oscar Salstrand

of Cabot, AR

June 9, 1948 - June 25, 2010

David Salstrand, Sr. Pastor of Abundant Blessings Church in Cabot, Arkansas, went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 25, 2010 at 1:53 P.M. He fought a good fight, finished his race, and is rejoicing with the Lord Jesus Christ. Pastor Salstrand touched and affected thousands of lives during his years of ministry. He was loved and respected because of his heart for people.

He began preaching when he was 19 and preached the annointed, powerful, gospel of Christ for 43 years. His ministry started as a pastor of youth in Corpus Christi, TX, and then continued as a Senior Pastor at churches in Perryton, TX; Wichita, KS; Dallas, TX; New Orleans, LA and concluded at Abundant Blessings Church in Cabot, AR.

Pastor David was born in Corpus Christi, TX on June 9, 1948 to Anna Govig and Oscar L. Salstrand. He is survived by one sister, LaVaughn Jones and husband Rev. Sidney Jones of Pensacola, FL; brother-in-law, Dr. Alton Garrison and wife Johanna of Springfield, MO; two newphews and one niece. Also surviving is his mother-in-law, Alese Garrison.

Pastor and his wife, Betty Garrison Salstrand, were married on January 3, 1969 at Sour lake, TX. His lifelong sweetheart Betty, along with son Justin Wade Salstrand of New Orleans, LA and daughter Tanis Alese Salstrand of Cabot, AR survive.

Pastor David loved God, his family, and the church, which made him the respected man of God that he was. We salute a great man of faith, knowing that Jesus has already spoken the words that Pastor David longed to hear, "Well done my good and faithful servant." Pastor, you will be missed by many.

Funeral service will be at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, June 29, at McArthur Assembly of God Church, 3501 John Harden Drive, Jacksonville, AR 72076 (501-982-1136), with Reverend Alton Garrison, D.D., Reverend Randy Caldwell, D.D., and Reverend Mark Short officiating. Private burial willl follow. The family will receive friends from 6-8 P.M. on Monday June 28, 2010 at Roller-Owens Funeral Home, 5509 J.F.K. Blvd., North Little Rock, AR (501-791-7400).

Today Reverand Salstrand came into my mind. I was saddened to know he passed away five years ago yesterday. Reverand Salstrand and Betty were the pastors when I attended Casa View Assembly of God in the seventies. I was just a young teenager then. The beginnings of my spiritual journey began under his pastoral leadership. His messages were dynamic, annointed and life changing. He and Betty were a team, and their passion for God's word was inspiring and genuine. Betty was always present and her smile was contagious. His impact in my life was demonstrative, and I have never forgotten his influence. He is now with the Master enjoying his heavenly fruits of labor. Betty, thank you for what you meant to me and our family as well and your years of commitment and service at Casa View. Remain strong in Him. God bless, Michael.

He was our pastor and even now, almost one and a half years later, we still miss him. He was a man of God who truly walked in love in all his dealings with people, and the church. He was God's instrument and we will never forget his example, kindness, love, and Biblical teachings.

Though it has been years I still feel the touch of his ministry. he has been a rock to stand on when life was shaky. I remember calling him to say I didn't call you, to ask you for anything. I just called to thank you Lord.

I remember the first day we walked into CVAG and were almost knocked back by the love that we felt. As time went on, we discovered the reason for the honest love . . . It was Pastor David and Betty. The way they loved people was loving them to the bone. Some of the greatest times were standing beside Betty singing. Let's make a date to get together in heaven and once again sing. You can have the alto part!

David, Betty, Justin, and Tanis.......What a loss to the entire Christian community. We loved David. He was our pastor for over 20 years at Casa View. Having your family live right around the corner was even better. He baptized Mark and I and you and David came to our wedding. Our hearts are broken now but we will see him very soon. I can't wait to hear him say "Hello" like he did in so many sermons when he thought we weren't paying attention. We are blessed to have known him and better off, I am sure, for it.

We honor you, David for who you were...your ministry and you just as a person. The days of your Youth Pastorate in Corpus Christi are very vivid..all of the softball games and the good times that we all enjoyed.
I can remember so well when you would play the bass fiddle for worship services and I would be playing the piano. I would ask you what keys the songs were in and you would say you did not know and you would make me search for the keysof the songs that were being sung. Those were all fun days and good times. We will miss you! Heaven is sounding sweeter all the time!!
Larry enjoyed so much ministering with you a CVAG..
Thanks for the memories!! We love you!!
