James Harold Wood

James Harold Wood, 76, of Lake City, passed away on Tuesday May 12, 2009, at St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center. He was born in Lake City on September 19, 1932, to Fred and Pearlie Lewis Wood. Mr. Wood was retired from the U.S. Army where he served for 24 years, he then taught ROTC in Memphis TN for 20 years. He was a member of Needham Baptist Church and a member of the Retired Teachers of Tennessee and National Education Association.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Dorothy Nelms Wood of the home; a son, Wayne Wood and his wife Darlene of Cordova TN; a daughter, Sue Sheets and her husband Lewis of Hardy AR; three grandchildren, Matt Halbert of Boozier City LA, Mandy Halbert of Little Rock and Anthony Webster of Cordova TN; and two sisters, LaWanda Minton of Bono and Martha Jane Slawson of Powderly TX.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mary Alice Wood Lee.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at Roller-Farmers Union Chapel, beginning at 10:00 a.m., with Rev. Kenny Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Philadelphia Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Honorary pallbearers will include the Men's Sunday School Class at Needham Baptist Church, Terry Hall, Russell Hall, and James Lansdale.
