Mr. Lawrence Willett, Jr., 87, of Mountain Home passed away Saturday, February 4th, 2006. He was born in Mountain Home on October 20, 1918, the son of Lawrence and Clysta Sowell Willett. He served in the US Army Infantry at Pearl Harbor and in the Philippines during World War II. He then enlisted in the Air Force during the Korean War. He married Beatrice Kocher on May 15, 1954 in Oakland, California, and their honeymoon in Alaska lasted three years; during which time he flew as a bush pilot. Upon their return to Arkansas, he managed the Flippin Flying Service for 15 years. He returned to Alaska, where he worked for the Federal Civil Service as a diesel electric power plant operator until his retirement. He was a member of 1st United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Beatrice (Betty) Willett of the home; 3 sons: Wayne Willett of Mountain Home, Donald (Linda) Willett of Tucson, AZ, and Darrell (Sherry) Willett of Greenwood, AR; 2 sisters: Virginia Thompson of Concord, CA, and Mary Dry of Nicasio, CA; 1 brother, Leland Willett of Lincoln, NE; and one very special friend Debra Carr who cared for him during his last illness. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren: Caleb Woodell, Sarah Burns, Stacy and Scott Willett, and Heather Wills; and 1 great-grandchild, Ryan Burns of Jacksonville, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 brother, Jerry Willett.

Visitation will be noon-9PM, Wednesday at Roller Funeral Home, with the family receiving friends 6-8. A funeral service will be 10:00 AM Thursday in the Roller Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Randy Ludwig officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Baxter Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Ozarks. .

My sympathies to the Willett family on your loss. He was a good friend and I will always remember him.
