Fred A. Rorex, 78 of Jonesboro passed away Sunday, December 27, 2015 at NEA Baptist Hospital. He was born July 22, 1937 in Walnut Ridge to Tom Rorex and Bonnie Baxter Rorex. Fred was with the Jonesboro Fire Department for 27 years with 22 years in which he was the fire chief. Accomplishments include; President of Arkansas Fire Chief Association, recipient of the Hall of Fame Award - Arkansas State Firefighters, Fire training Academy Board, International Fire Training Association, Jaycee's president, Kiwanis president, founding member and president of Elk's, Fred Rorex Day declared on 2-1-1967, Member of Southwest Church of Christ since 1973, Jonesboro City Council, Chamber of Commerce, Craighead County board member, Honorary chair Miss Jonesboro Pageant, 4-H Club alumni, Egypt Basketball Team. He enjoyed hunting quail and fishing.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, brother; Terry Rorex, sisters; Anita and Juanita Rorex.
Survivors include; son, Fred A. Rorex Jr., daughter; Brenda (Lonnie) Richardson, grandchildren; Jennifer (Scott) Rorex Peters, Matthew Levi (Sarah) Rorex, Jordon Richardson, great grandchildren; Levi Davidson and Walter Zeppelin Peters, sister; JoNell Butler and sister in law; Norma Rorex.
Service will be Wednesday, December 30 at 2:00 PM at Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home with Jimmy Adcox officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until time of service. Burial will be at Markham Cemetery near Egypt.
Pallbearers will be members of the Jonesboro Fire Department. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Jean Keith, Bill Wade, Wayne Masterson, Doug Burris, Dennis Burris, Darrell Burris, Fain Butler, Jimmy Butler, Mark Rorex, David Rorex and Michael Butts.

We are very sorry to hear of Fred's passing. He enjoyed all his friends and relatives very much and was always glad to see everyone. He had been in government work so long that he was a walking history book for the city and county and could recall it all. It is sad to see all that lost. Our condolences go out to all his family.
