Lester Coy Winkle, 86, of Batesville passed away on Tuesday, May 24, 2005 at White River Medical Center in Batesville.

He was born on Wednesday, February 12, 1919 in the Washington Township of Independence County in Arkansas and was the son of the late Tom and Mattie (Jones) Winkle.

Lester was a truck driver and he was an employee of the University of Arkansas Experiment Station. He was also the manager of a barber shop in Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Lester served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II serving in Okinawa. He was a member of the VFW and was of the Baptist faith.

Lester is survived by one son Bobby Dean Winkle of Lawton, Oklahoma; three daughters Shirley Winkle Bardwell of Metamora, Illinois, Cathy Winkle Hobbs of Arlington, Texas and Marcia Darlene Winkle, also of Arlington. He is also survived by seven grandchildren Michael Bardwell, Hope Duncan, Sherie Winkle, Ricky Winkle, Angie Goellner, Krystal Pendergrass and Tiffany Winkle; and five great-grandchildren Cassandra Duncan, Luke Duncan, Ian Bardwell, Hayden Bardwell and Allie Hurley.

Other survivors include two nephews Ralph Jones of Little Rock and Loren Kelley of Ohio; and a niece, Beverice Kelley Line of Ratcliff, Arkansas.

Graveside services will be held on Friday at 10:00 a.m. at the Campground Cemetery in Bethesda with Alan West officiating.

There will be no visitation.
