Erma Blanche (McKnight) Steele 99, of Corpus Christi, Texas passed away on Friday, May 28, 2010. Erma was born January 31, 1911 at Bee Branch, Arkansas to the late Cowan William McKnight and Martha Jane (Crownover) McKnight.

Erma grew up on the family farm near Clinton, Arkansas. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Home Economics from the University of Arkansas. Erma worked as a Home Demonstration Agent in Arkansas during the last years of the Great Depression and during the WWII years. She then met and married James R. Steele, an accountant working in Arkansas. They moved to Bartlesville, Oklahoma where they lived until retirement, except for 3 years in Idaho Falls, Idaho. During this time Erma worked as a Home Economics teacher. They lived their retirement years on their acreage near Sallisaw, Oklahoma surrounded by wonderful friends and neighbors until May 2007. They then moved to Corpus Christi, Texas where the caring staff of Villa South has taken loving care of her until a short stay at Trinity Towers / Vista Care and Cimarron Place.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jim Steele; her beloved son, Thomas Steele; her sisters, May Ferguson and Billie Newborn; her brothers, Howard, Fred and Olen Mcknight.

Erma is survived by her daughter, Dr. Martha Steele (Henry) Chinnery; daughter-in-law, LeAnn Steele; her beloved grandsons, Rob Steele, Eryck Chinnery, Ryan Steele, Kristopher Chinnery, Jason Chinnery and Nathaniel Chinnery; her sisters Betty Bradford and Fairy Stevens; brothers, Elbert (Twyla) McKnight and Bob (Ida) McKnight; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at Seaside Funeral Home Chapel with Senior Associate Pastor Gloria Lear officiating.

A Graveside Service & Burial will be held at the Quattlebaum Cemetery in Bee Branch, Arkansas by Roller-McNutt Funeral Home with Pastor Vaughn Marsden officiating at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 11, 2010.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Roller-McNutt Funeral home of Clinton, Arkansas.
