Vester Lee Treat

of Batesville, AR

June 6, 1932 - January 6, 2005

Sylvester "Vester" Lee Treat passed away on Thursday, January 6, 2005 at White River Medical Center.

He was 72 years and 7 months of age.

Vester was born on Monday, June 6, 1932 in Big Flat, Arkansas and was the son of the late Arthur Rankin Treat and Ethel Grey Treat. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Batesville. Vester retired from Gateway Technical School in 1996 and later worked at Ace Hardware and then as custodian for the First Baptist Church of Batesville where he was an active member. He loved to show out and was a nut. His favorite saying was "Doin' a 100".

He was a hard worker and very dependable. He loved his grandchildren and was a proud family man. Vester loved his mother-in-law and took off work to take care of her for a month while she was in the hospital. He married Dana Guthrie on April 12, 1952 and they were married for 52 years. Vester was an avid Razorback fan. He had just returned home from the January 5, Razorback game just ten minutes before he passed away.

Vester loved his family, life and the Lord. He will be missed, but his loved ones rejoice that he is with the Lord.

He is survived by his wife; his two sons Ben Treat and his wife, Wanda of Batesville and Phil Treat and his wife, Linda also of Batesville; his daughter Lindy Hopper and her husband, Troy of Batesville. Nine grandchildren and two great-granddaughters also survive him. He is also survived by his four brothers Cecil Treat of Cassville, Missouri, Carl Treat of Rogers, Arkansas, Alfred Treat of Maude, Oklahoma, and Charles Treat of Springdale, Arkansas; and two sisters Dorothy Cypert of Gassville, Arkansas and Zetauh Richardson of Wynne, Arkansas and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, one sister and an infant twin sister.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, January 8, 2005 at the First Baptist Church in Batesville with Brother Eddie Cox officiating.

Pallbearers are Jim Coats, Dr. Charles McLain, Chip Melton, Jason Treat, Brandon Treat and Troy Hopper. Honorary pallbearers are Vester's Sunday School Class, Dr. Greg Neaville and Dr. Margaret Kuykendall.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM on Friday, January 7, 2005.

Interment will be at the Eastlawn Cemetery in Marshall at 2:00 PM under the direction of Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville. (870) 793-4161

We are so sorry to hear of your loss. We loved Vester so much. Gateway would not have been the same without him. He kept it so nice and clean...constantly reminding us not to sit on the tables and lean on the walls. May God Comfort you! Lisa Albertson and Jo Stephens

Dana: I was so sorry to learn of Vester's death. He was a great friend of mine during the 10 years I worked with him at Gateway Vocational Technical School.
