Malcolm "Mac" Eugene Reed left this world on Saturday, April 10, 2010, at the age of 85, at North Arkansas Regional Medical Center. Mac was a graduate of South Charleston High School and West Virginia Tech with a degree in Chemical Engineering and took masters classes at Marshall College. He was a Navy pilot and served in World War II in the South Pacific. He was a chemical engineer at Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical Corporation for 35 years in Ravenswood, WV, Tacoma, Washington, and Spokane, Washington. He enjoyed singing, fishing at Priest Lake, Idaho, playing golf, watching sports, and cheering for West Virginia University.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Virginia Reed. Mr. and Mrs. Reed met on a blind date while Mac was stationed in San Diego, California and Virginia was working for Bullock's Department Store in Los Angeles, California. He is survived by his sister, Dorothy LoCascio, of Tucson, Arizona; his sons, Robert Reed of Kamuela, Hawaii, Patrick Reed Sr. of Harrison, Arkansas; his daughter, Connie Reed, of Huntington, WV; his grandchildren, Patrick Reed, Jr. and Megan Reed of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Robert Reed, Jr. of Hawaii and Krista Beaty Griese a missionary in Africa; and three great-grandchildren, Cassie, Hope and Emily Griese of Mali, W. Africa.

Mr. Reed is also survived by his nieces, Diana Cawley of Austin, Texas, Donna Turner of Charleston, WV, Judy Haggarty of Kennewick, Washington, Nancy Laurin, Debbie Southard and Julie Miller of Spokane, Washington, Jeanie Seaman of Tucson, Arizona and Diane Young of Charlotte, North Carolina; his nephews, John H. Reed, II of Hurricane, WV, Greg Buchanan of Denver, Colorado, Joe Billups of Newman Lake, Washington, Ellis Reed of Orlando, Florida, Mike and Gary Baker of Huntington, WV, Eddie Pennel of Tucson, Arizona, Larry Buchanan of San Francisco, Washington; and good friends Dave Dennis, Celie Barnard, Ruthie Sinor, and Sharla Bowser.

He was preceeded in death by his parents, Nell and John H. Reed I, of South Charleston, WV; his brother, John H. Reed, Jr.; his sisters, JoAnn Baker and Betty Jo Reed; and his beloved grandson, Brian Robert Reed.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Roller-Christeson Funeral Home of Harrison, Arkansas. A private funeral Mass will be held at a later date.
