Calvin Walker Tedford

of North Little Rock, AR

February 4, 1921 - February 3, 2010

Calvin Walker "Dub" Tedford of North Little Rock passed away Wednesday, February 3, 2010, one day before his 89th birthday. He was born February 4, 1921, to Ernest Walker and Cora King Tedford in Lonoke, Arkansas. He graduated from North Little Rock High School and attended Arkansas State Teachers College (now UCA) before joining the Air Force in 1941, serving in England, France and Germany throughout World War II. Just before shipping out, he married his high school sweetheart, Agnes Aries Garner, his loving wife of 45 years. After the war, he returned to North Little Rock--a certified veteran of "The Greatest Generation"--where he worked as a CPA for both 3M and Danco Construction. He was a longtime member of Central Baptist Church, the Ewton/Bradley "Mighty Men" Sunday School Class, and the BPOElks Lodge 1004. He was a Master Mason, 32nd Degree member of the Scottish Rite, a Shriner, and proud member of the Scimitar Oriental Band, just one example of his life-long love of music. As an avid fan of the Big Band Era, he often played trombone in bands ranging from school and community concerts to a military combo while overseas. He will also be remembered for his love of nature, gentle sense of humor, and generous spirit.

Preceded in death by his parents, wife, and granddaughter, Kathleen Ann "Kat" Tedford, he is survived by his sons, Calvin Tim and Woody Walker, both of the city, his sister, Lee Ella Ratcliff, grandchildren, Tim W. Tedford, "Ted" Tedford (Dana), and Brandy Flanigan (Eric), great-grandchildren, Nick and Sam Tedford, and Braydon and Gavin Flanigan, niece, LeElla Ratcliff, and beloved cat, Toby.

Family visitations will be Sunday, February 7, 2010, from 2-4 p.m. and again from 6-8 p.m., on Tuesday, February 9, at Roller-Owens Funeral Home at 5509 John F. Kennedy Blvd. in North Little Rock, (501) 791-7400. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 11, in the chapel at Roller-Owens, with the Reverends Randy Anderson and Steve Kyle officiating. Interment will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park.
Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital, c/o #1 Scimitar Circle, Little Rock, Arkansas 72209.
