of Helena, AR
February 25, 1916 - December 22, 2008
Roberta Mays Anders, known affectionately to all as Teedie, went to join her Lord on Monday, December 22, 2008. Predeceased by her husband of 43 years, John Robert Anders, Jr, she was the loving mother of John Robert Anders III and James Hornor Anders, and the devoted grandmother of John Michael Anders and Lindsay Anders. She was 92 years old.
Teedie was born February 25, 1916 to Jamie D. and Harriet Hornor Mays and was a lifelong resident of Helena. On May 15, 1943 she married John Robert Anders Jr. in Chicopee, Mass. Following World War II, they returned to Helena, where he worked for the Army Corps of Engineers and she worked at Arkansas Power and Light, and where they raised their family.
Teedie is survived by her sons, Bob and his wife Sherwood Freeman Anders of San Francisco, CA, and Jim and his wife Marjorie Moser Anders and their children, Michael and Lindsay of Pensacola, Fla. She was the adoring "Aunt Rosa" of Otis and Ruth Howe of Helena, Jim and Nancy Howe of Helena, Martha McKnight Huey of Little Rock, and French and Claire McKnight of Nashville, TN. Teedie will also be remembered by the many grandnephews and grandnieces and her large extended family, whom she loved very much, and of whom she was immensely proud. She took great delight in following their growth, achievements and milestones and appreciated receiving updates and photos from them.
A lifetime member of St. John's Episcopal Church, she was the oldest active member and had many close friends in the congregation. The family would like to thank Vera Jones, Annie Sanders and Sharon Griffin and all of the others who helped for their love and care of Teedie. She will be missed dearly by the many people who loved her and whose lives she touched.
Services will be held on Saturday, December 27, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at Maple Hill Cemetery, with a memorial service following at 11:00 a.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church. A reception will be held after the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John's Episcopal Church, 625 Pecan Street, Helena, 72342, or to the charity of your choice.
