Stella Hix Allen, 103 of Batesville died Sunday, March 30, 2008 at Rolling Hills Nursing Home.
She was born near Batesville on November 10, 1904 to J. Henry and Lula Mae (Waller) Hix.
She was a Batesville High School graduate and attended Draughn Business College in Springfield, Missouri. She married her high school boyfriend, John W. Allen on May 26, 1926. Stella was an active member of the Central Avenue Church of Christ; a life time member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 114; past president of the American Legion Auxiliary, Department of Arkansas. She received four national appointments; was a department page to three national conventions; a delegate to national conventions numerous times; a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Cleburne County Chapter 1156 in Heber Springs. She was secretary to the Federal Employees Credit Union from its beginning in 1957 until she retired in February of 1969.
Stella was Arkansas Girls State Chairman of American Legion Auxiliary from 1961 to 2000; a member of National Association ASC County office employees; the Arkansas Junior Miss official; a past member of AARP; and a past charter member and fourth president of the Batesville Business and Professional Women's Club.
She is survived by her son John W. Allen and his wife Eva Lee of Albuquerque, New Mexico; grandson, Richard Allen also of Albuquerque; a brother, James Ernest Hix of Scottsdale, Arizona. She is also survived by her nephews: Jimmy Gould of Floral, John Loyd Hix of Natchitoches, Louisiana, Jerry Honey of Harrison, Dale Honey of Hot Springs Village and Ronnie Goodwin of Belle Plaine, Kansas; and nieces: Bonita Hix of Brea, California, Jan Breuil of Baxter Springs, Kansas, Betty Jane Berryhill of Malvern and Lula Biejay of Searcy.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Allen, Sr.; Sisters: Janie Rosalee Goodwin, Maud Honey and baby sister, Maggie Lorene Hix; Brothers: 5 year old brother, Clyde Edgar Hix and John Allen Hix; half sister, Mary Elizabeth Montgomery; brother-in-law, L. D. Honey; sister-in-law, Maxine Hix; Grandson, James Allen.
Funeral services are at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Roller-Crouch Chapel with J. B. Milligan and Royce Pendergrass officiating.
Burial will follow the services at Oaklawn Cemetery under the direction of Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville.
Pallbearers are Gene Talburt, Carlos Smith, Andy Moore, Leroy Clem, Gary Ennis and Jeff Zelasko.
Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Bob Slaughter, Louis Salling, Floyd Denton, Randolph Williams, Bill Kimmer and J. W. Ball.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Monday, March 31, 2008.

Aunt Stella was my mother's oldest sister living and we will miss her very much. she was a very sweet lady and a great inspiration to the Honey family and to her friends and relatives. May god bless and keep her always. all our love

Aunt Stella was a great inspiration for me. She taught me a lot about life by the way she conducted hers, and I realize now which side of the family I get my love of jewelry from!! (I am Maud's granddaughter, Betty's daughter)

John, My prayers are with you and your family. I loved Aunt Stella so much. I will miss her so much and I know dad (Jimmy Gould) will to. She was a blessing to us. But someday we will all be together again. May God Bless You.
