Gladys Farley

of Jonesboro, AR

November 10, 1918 - January 29, 2010

Gladys Farley, age 91, died peacefully Friday afternoon at her home surrounded by her children and loving friends. She was born in Murray, KY on November 10, 1918 and moved to northeast Arkansas as a young girl, married and raised her family at Cash. She was a homemaker and devoted her life to her family, her church and community.

She was a faithful member of the Church of Christ and especially loved her years at Grubbs Church of Christ teaching young girls about Christ. In recent years, she moved her membership to the Southwest Church of Christ in Jonesboro and actively participated in Brother's Keeper and Treasurers Among Us.

Her four children survive her: Larry Farley and wife, Genevieve, of Cash; Jerry Farley of Jonesboro; Jackie Brubaker and husband, Herb, of Jonesboro; and Sandy Graves and husband, Ted, of Vienna, Virginia. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Aaron Luster, Lauren Luster, Zach Luster and Amber Russo; and four great-grandchildren.

Husband, Coleman Farley; her parents and brother preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Tuesday, February 2, at Roller-Farmers Union Chapel with Emmett Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers include Zach Luster, Lynn Luster, Charles Ellis, Belo Ellis, Terry Ellis and Louie Wewers. Honorary pallbearers will include her Brother's Keepers Group from Southwest Church of Christ.

Visitation will be Monday, February 1, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the funeral home.

The family would like to thank Joann and James Priest, Tilda Peeler and Pat Johnson for the special love and care that gave to our mom and all of the countless prayers and visits from her many friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Paragould Children's Home, 5515 Walcott Road, Paragould, AR 72450.

Our family is so sorry for your loss and the loss of our Church family and community. Ms. Gladys was such a joy to know and love.
She told Dean and me about going on her honeymoon on the back of a Harley. I can just see her smiling all the way. I'm not sure she had a black bikers' jacket but she did always look sporty in the black leather jacket she wore to Church.
Our girls liked going to see her and her cat. The cat really wouldn't have much to do with them but it did keep them busy while Ms. Gladys and I visitied.
May God bring to your memory fun and wonderful things about her life that will encourage and sustain you during this time.
With love and prayers.

Dear Farley Family:
I just wanted to say how sorry I was to hear about Gladys. I know that my Grandma Ford is a very happy person to be with her best friend again. It always amazed me that Grandma would tell me that she never got to go anywhere, and we all knew that she and Gladys had been doing nothing but running around! Gladys was a wonderful friend to many people. I cann't remember a time that she didn't have a wonderful smile on her face. She'll always have a special place in my heart.

Jonathan Swift, the writer of Gulliver's Travels said, " May you live all the days of your life". Anyone who knew Ms. Farley knew this was a truly wonderful statement of her life. What a beautiful thought. To Jackie and all the family we have been blessed for knowing your mother. Truly the next few days, although sad, should be a celebration of her life. I will always cherish my special times with your mother. Melanie and I are deeply saddened by your loss and will have each and every one of you in our prayers. God bless.
