Viola Mathews, of Palestine, Arkansas passed away on Monday, December 21, 2009 at home. She was 98 years of age.
Viola was born on February 28, 1911 in Mt. Ida, Arkansas to Fred Wilson and Mary Rizley Wilson.
She married Charley A. Mathews, and made a home for their family. She also worked as a Cook at Gill School for five years.
Viola is survived by sons Charley Sam Mathews of Gill, AR; and Orville Mathews of Madison, AL: daughter Dorothy McClurg of Gill; twenty grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; forty great-great grandchildren; one sister, Imogene Wilson Ford; and one brother, William Jr. Wilson, both of Indiana; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charley Mathews, and one daughter, Lola Key.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 23, at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home in Marianna, Arkansas. Burial will follow in Hopewell Cemetery near Gill. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home.

Mrs. Dot, Ricky, Peggy and family, Phillip and family. We have you in our prayers and thoughts. Granny Mathews will be missed by all, but she is in God's hands now. I hope you can take peace in knowing that. We love you all.
