Paul Newton Heasley, 86, of Batesville, died Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at White River Medical Center in Batesville.
He was born in Calico Rock on October 22, 1922 and was the son of J. R. and Lillian Seay Heasley.
He was a graduate of Batesville High School and attended Arkansas College (now Lyon College). He served 2 ½ years in the U. S. Navy during World War II and after his service to his country, he returned to Arkansas College graduating in 1948. Upon graduating, he opened and managed Newport Appliance Store for 13 years and in 1962 returned to Batesville continuing in the appliance business as manager of the Heasley’s Incorporated until the store closed in 1997 when he retired. He was a big sports fan and liked the Razorbacks, loved to play dominoes and squirrel hunt. Paul also liked to fish, read Louis Lamoure books, and play pool. He was a member of the Central Avenue Church of Christ. Paul was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Annas Bell Heasley; a son, David Heasley and his wife, Lynn of Bryant; a daughter, Annette Heasley of Batesville; two grandchildren, Stephen Heasley of Little Rock and Lauren Heasley of Bryant; one sister, Dr. Martha H. Cox of San Francisco, CA; sisters-in-law: Bonnie Kimmer of Batesville, Bula Gibbs of Little Rock; brother-in-law, Adley Bell of Littler Rock; and several nieces and nephews.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-mother, Ruthel Laman Heasley; brother, T. R. Heasley; and two sisters: Jessie Joe Heasley and Leila Heasley.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Roller-Crouch Chapel with Royce Pendergrass and J. B. Milligan officiating.
Burial will follow the services at Oaklawn Cemetery under the direction of Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
Pallbearers will be Stephen Heasley, Bryan Kimmer, Rick Smith, Jim Hinkle, David Huddleston, and Jim Jacot. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Robert Walton, Dr. Pat Hatfield, Randolph Williams, Jim Bangs, Gary Leonard, Floyd Denton, Larry Dowdy, J. D. Holder, and Richard Earnheart.
