of Little Rock, AR
November 30, 1939 - January 9, 2023
Angie Boyt Greer, age 83, passed away January 9, 2023 from complications of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), more commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease.
She was born in Columbia, Louisiana on November 30, 1939 to John and Marie Boyt. Angie was a member of Pulaski Heights Baptist Church of Little Rock. She was a faithful volunteer "Market Manager" at the Hillcrest Farmers Market. In the brutal heat of the summer and bitter cold of the winter, she would arrive before daylight every Saturday to make sure the vendors were welcomed and set up for the day. Angie's 40-year career as a nurse and nursing instructor at Henderson State University instilled her philosophy of compassionate care for others through volunteerism. She spent many years alongside her nursing colleagues in the Arkadelphia Elk Horn bank lobby taking the blood pressure of people who didn't have access to or might not be able to afford regular medical check ups, preaching the benefits of early heart disease detection. Her passion for travel and care for the less fortunate took her to Brazil on a mission trip of a lifetime, providing dental and medical services to the indigenous people of Northern Brazil that could only be reached by boat along the Amazon River.
Angie found her calling to be a nurse as a teenager and never lost sight of her passion to care for the sick. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana and her Master of Nursing from the University of Evansville in Evansville, Indiana. Working in clinics and hospitals early in her career were rewarding, but nothing was more rewarding and sometimes challenging, than her 20 years in the classroom at Henderson State University teaching young nursing students. Her sons disappointed her by not following in her footsteps in the Healthcare field, but she can rest in peace knowing that her granddaughters, Haylee and Riley, have both chosen careers in the medical field and will carry the torch for another generation.
She is preceded in death by her most cherished and faithful Golden Retriever, Mickie; her husband, Dr. Tom Greer; her sister, Johnnie Johnson; her mother, Marie Boyt; father, John Boyt and her favorite grandmother and the influence to her love of Southern cooking, Lorraine Reitzel of Columbia, Louisiana.
Angie is survived by her sons, John (Tricia) Greer of Little Rock, Kent (Sumiko) Greer of Toyokoro, Japan; granddaughters, Haylee and Riley Greer and granddogs, Mikenzie and Scout.
The family would like to say a special thank you to the Nurses and Care Givers at Parkway Health Center Nursing Care, for the compassionate care and love they gave to make Mom's quality of life the best it could be during the final months of her life. We would also like to thank Cris Mammarelli at ALS Association Arkansas Chapter for her guidance and support as we navigated through the progressive stages of this debilitating disease.
Please join the family for a visitation and celebration of her life from 5pm-8pm on Friday, January 13, 2023 in the Hyde Parlor at Pulaski Heights Baptist Church, 2200 Kavanaugh Blvd., Little Rock, AR. There will be a private family burial service.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the Hillcrest Farmers Market c/o Pulaski Heights Baptist Church, 2200 Kavanaugh Blvd., Little Rock, AR 72205, the ALS Association, 1200 Walnut, Suite 2406 Rogers, AR 72756 or visit als.org

I spent many Saturday mornings at the PHBC market working and visiting with Angie. She was totally dedicated to helping others, her church and loving you all. She and Judy made volunteering at the market an endeavor of high calling. She was a fine lady and l will always remember how she cared for you all and others. God be with you. Mike Turner
Angie was such a sweet lady. I met her at the Hillcrest Farmers Market years ago and she was a joy.

John, I read the obituary with interest and am so impressed with the wonderful person your mother was and her obvious caring for others both as a nurse and a teacher. Having known you for nearly 25 years and knowing you as a kind and gentle man, your mother can also be seen in you. May she rest peacefully now free from the terrible ALS disease.
So sorry to hear of your loss, John.
John and Kent, I am so sorry for your loss. I loved your mom. She helped form me as a nurse. I remember teaching children’s Sunday School with her. I remember her telling me of her commitment to life long Christian service. I enjoyed our long talks. She was a blessing to me. Melanie Rothwell
I had the pleasure of being friends with Angie for over 30 years, and also as a faculty colleague at Henderson for many years. The word that comes to mind when I remember Angie is “integrity “.
I will miss Angie and my thoughts are with John, Kent, and all members of Angie’s family during this time of loss.
I wrote a message of condolence for Angie Greer. My last name was left off.
Please add Russ to my message. It should read Nancy Russ
Many thanks,

Great lady and the maker of the best gumbo I've tasted. Rest in Peace, Angie. Say hello to Tom.
What a great pleasure to have known you, Angie. Rest in peace.
I feel fortunate to have known Angie. We worked together in a caregiving situation, and I found her to be a wise and compassionate friend. Her commitment to the market at the church, to an “elderly†friend in Prescott, and to always doing more than was required of her was an inspiration. I miss her.
Our sincere sympathy on the loss of your dear mother.
She is now a peace and no longer suffering.
You are now in God’s loving arms feeling no pain.
I loved you, Angie. You were a wonderful friend
and neighbor.
She was so proud of you John and Kent and your family.
I am so honored to have known you, Angie.
Angie was the first friend I made after moving back to Little Rock to the Taylor Park neighborhood. I met her walking Mickie and we bonded immediately over our love of animals.
It was Angie that took me to the Humane Society of Pulaski County for the first time and introduced me to what would become a passion. She was the supreme role model for volunteering and giving back.
Angie, Ida Daniels and myself had a birthday club and we celebrated our birthdays by going to lunch at the birthday girl's favorite restaurant followed by ice cream at Baskin Robbins. We all three got the same flavor...everytime.
My thoughts and prayers go to Angie's family.
She was loved.
She will be missed.
John and Kent, I am so sorry for you loss. She and your Dad were very important influence in my life in Prescott. My prayers are with you and your families.
The Greers were close friends of my parents, Paul and Mary Root, and an important part of my life from the day we meet in Oakland City, Indiana, in 1969. We later shared life in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. From my childhood to my current status as a grandpa, Mrs. Greer was a quiet but always supportive friend of the Root family. She was a strong woman of faith.
Our heartfelt condolences on your loss. Sending love and prayers to each and everyone.
Keys, Jeanie, Wyn, Quinn, Max and Nathan
