Bernard Lee Smith

Bernard Lee Smith, age 88 and lifelong resident of Conway, passed away April
25, 2007 in Atlanta, Georgia, of natural causes. He was born November 8,
1918, in Kansas City, Kansas. Bernard grew up with his parents, Leo and Bessie
Smith, in Bolivar, Missouri.
In 1943, he married Hazel Gray Smith, his wife of 64 years. From this union were
born two children, Connie Gail Melgaard and Sidney Lee Smith, both of Atlanta,
Georgia. He is also survived by his sister, Mildred Mitchell; four grandchildren,
Amanda Melgaard, Megan Melgaard, Amy Smith Osaba, and Ryan Smith; and two
great-grandchildren, Noah and Miles Osaba.
Bernard attended Kansas City College of Pharmacy, University of Missouri, and
later joined the United States Navy as a Pharmacist. He served on many Navy
cruises in World War II.
Mr. Smith and his wife moved to Conway, AR, in 1952. There, he was a lifelong
druggist, supplying pharmaceuticals to the town of Conway, AR, through his drugstore,
Smith's Drug. He later served as Pharmacist at Conway Memorial Hospital and retired
in 1982.
The funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM, Sunday, April 29th at
Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Conway with the Reverend Don Bingham,
officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be
Saturday, April 28th, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. at the funeral home.
