This is a message that was e-mailed to me by the Chief Engineer at the Seismological Laboratory: "I am very sorry to hear of the passing of Billy Barber. He was a remarkable individual. I referred to him as a "Renaissance Man" because it seemed that there was nothing that he couldn't do. We worked together on very many exciting projects and he always had good ideas and made important contributions."

Billy was a good friend and colleague at the Seismo Lab. I talked to him on Tuesday, May 8th and wished him a happy belated birthday. He sounded like he was cooperating with the process. I greatly admire his dignity. He is a good soul. The world is a sadder place with him. Rest in peace, dear BEB.
